简　　介
　　公元700年盛唐期间，中国同阿拉伯及中东在经济、文化上有很多交换，西域的丝绸之路是相互交往的要道，为保卫其完整，唐代军队不竭与突厥对垒。
　　戍边校尉李（姜文）因不愿屠杀突厥的老人、妇女和孩子俘虏冒犯军令成为通缉犯，为访拿他，天子封屡请返国的日本遣唐使来栖（中井贵一）为捕快，并许诺只要能将校尉李缉捕归案，即可满足其返国心愿。当时战事正值严重，来到西域的来栖又受托护送将军之女文珠（赵薇）回长安，中途他碰见校尉李，一场大战后，两人不分轩轾，相约长安城下再决生死。未几，他们碰上护送经书的朝廷商队及觊觎驼队的盗贼子安（王学圻），生死大战蓄势待发。
