故事发生在某个邻接原始森林的小镇，一家砍木公司正在林中作业，这时白雪飘然落下，作业临时停止，但是随即使发生了残暴血腥的事务。与此同时，警长保罗·希尔德（凯文·杜兰德 Kevin Durand 饰）和新来的同伴唐尼刚刚对付完几个报警事务，随后驱车来到前妻苏珊（Bianca Kajlich 饰）的家中，接走儿子亚当（Ethan Khusidman 饰）回自家居住。一夜无事，越日一早，保罗在门口发现巨大的脚印，而且脚印遍及小镇主干道，一向延长到森林深处。庞大的脚印在小镇闹得民气惶惑，保罗开初绝不相信妖精怪物一类的传闻，可是可骇血腥的事务持续不断发生，让小镇堕入史无前例的发急当中。
