　　一部反映年轻人在成长转折期所经历的心理恐怖片，和同一编剧的《惊声尖叫》属同一类型。该片在美国上映时引起很多年轻人的共鸣。1998年的续集《到底是谁搞的鬼》（I Still Know What You Did Last Summer）换了场景，但恐怖事件太有规律就不恐怖了。
