　　布鲁斯（金?凯瑞 Jim Carrey 饰）是美国水牛城的一位记者。三十而立的他，不但没有变得成熟和自力，反而还成天毛手毛脚，弄得自己诸事不顺。布鲁斯还不知自我检讨，总是把一切错误的义务推到他人或天主身上。还好他的诙谐颇受当地观众爱好，才不致于他被电视台扫地出门。
　　此日，布鲁斯一醒来就霉运就来了：先是在床上焦躁得睡不着，接着女友做的早饭难吃得要命，随着家里的狗居然在沙发上撒尿了……布鲁斯忍无可忍，指着天空没完没了地痛骂起天主对他的不公。
　　天主真的被他从天上骂下来了！天主答应布鲁斯做一天天主，治理这个天下。兴奋的布鲁斯发现自己真的无所事事了，他起头了自己疯狂的游戏……
