1987年的某个夜晚，慌张失措的赛斯·汉普顿（Graham Skipper 饰）驱车来到好朋友马克·费舍（Josh Ethier 饰）的家，他颠三倒四，宣称未几前天上出现一道蓝光，将他们的另一个好朋友罗伯带走了。马克开初并不太相信赛斯的说词，谁知忽然之间全城大停电，窗外亮起夺目标蓝光，并陪伴着尖锐刺耳的声响，紊乱中马克恍如被控制了一般，他推门走了进来，再也没有返来。在此以后，蓝光事务在派顿市引发不小的骚乱，而赛斯也成为罗伯和马克失落案的怀疑人遭到控告。两年龄后，马克的女友简·克莱文（Vanessa Leigh 饰）交到新男友，正预备展开新生活，而赛斯仍然被昔时的履历和噩梦所困扰。毫无征象的一天，大停电再度发生，而消失已久的马克惊现森林，但这绝不是赛斯熟悉的朋友……
