乔治（弗莱迪·海默 Freddie Highmore 饰）是一个聪明的孩子，一向回避进修的他总是在课堂上各类涂鸦，是以从未完成任何一门作业，将要面临没法结业的窘境。而校花莎莉（艾玛·罗伯茨 Emma Roberts 饰）在极受接待的表面下遮蔽着忧伤的心里天下。莎莉和乔治发现相互有着很多类似的地方而成为朋友，而且相互发生了好感。乔治在得知自己难以获得高中结业证书后掉臂一切地想要逃离高中生活，由于有一手绘画的绝活，所以想用此来约束自己，因而做了艺术家达斯汀（迈克尔·安格拉诺 Michael Angarano 饰）的学徒。达斯汀看到了乔治身上的潜质，乔治也似乎找到了人生的偏向，但他持久以来的懒惰风格却障碍着他的进步......
