Hogfather是Discworld系列中最畅销的一本小说，比来终究被sky电视台改编成3小时的电视影集，真是最使人欣喜的圣诞礼物了。影集的建造水准很高，书中的奇异天下被展现的淋漓尽致，甚至作者Terry Pratchett也有客串表演。
Hogfather的故事发生在被称为Discworld的异天下里，那边的居民并不像我们一样居住在一个融化的铁球上面几千英里的地方（笑），而是生活在由四头巨象驼着的圆盘上，巨象们则是站在一只星球般庞大的宇宙海龟背上。Hogswatchnight是Discworld里最重要的一个节日，每年12月32日的早晨，身穿红色长袍，张着白胡子和獠牙的Hogfather会驾着四头野猪拉的雪橇给每个孩子送上礼物。今年的Hogswatchnight转眼降至，Ankh-Morpork城中却酝酿着一个庞大的诡计，The Auditors雇佣了杀手行会的Mr. Teatime预备消灭Hogfather。The Auditors是一群奥秘人物，他们控制着Discworld中的各类事物，保证它们都依照一般的纪律运转，比如一切化学变化都必须循规蹈矩，你不能往汤里丢田鸡腿和蝙蝠同党就炼出黄金。但在这个巨龟驼着的天下里明显很难连结一般，那些白目标魔法师总是破坏自然纪律，而龙和其他怪异的生物也会三不五十的帮衬，不外最使The Auditors烦心的就是Hogfather，明显就是个不存在的人物，却每年都要私闯他人家的烟囱。此次似乎Mr. Teatime终究要消灭Hogfather了，他绑架了牙齿仙子，在牙齿仙子的城堡里收集了一百万颗孩子的牙齿，借此控制一切孩子不要相信Hogfather。这时死神发现了Hogfather身处危难，因而他代替了Hogfather的职位，穿上红袍戴上胡子起头给孩子们送礼物，但他把使命履行的太完全了，小女孩要尖锐的宝剑他也照送不误。另一方面死神的孙女Susan决心找到失落的Hogfather，在Hogfather的城堡里只要宿醉之神Bilious，天下上只要有人宿醉吐逆他就会感同身受。城堡由于众人对Hogfather的信仰削弱，起头周全解体，Susan带着Bilious逃离了城堡，到巫师学院Unseen University追求帮助。此时巫师们也欠好过，由于对Hogfather的信仰的流失，天下上多出了很多“过剩信仰”，这些能量在Unseen University中制造了一堆精灵和小鬼，巫师们一个个被弄得焦头烂额。在Discworld的一片紊乱当中Susan踏上了拯救Hogswatchnight的门路……(By FOXhunt）
