本片荣获艾美奖最好影片、最好女配角等多项大奖，是一部有血有泪动人肺腑的电视电影，由著名戏剧家亚瑟．米勒按照太裔讴歌家范妮．费尼洛的回忆录改编，描写二次天下大战时代犹太人在集合营挣扎求存的实在业绩。范妮原为巴黎著名歌星，战争时代，她跟别的犹太人被送到慕尼黑的一个劳工营软禁。一切的女犯人，全数要脱光衣服，剃光头，在手臂上刺上编号，才发配到集合营。在那边，天天都有人被送到毒气室个人屠杀，有些年轻的女犯人为了调换一个面包，不惜向看管的德兵士卖身。荣幸地范妮和一些晓得乐器演奏的女犯人被挑选组成了一个管弦乐队，一方面为黑衫军军官供给文娱，另一方面则为送进毒气室的死囚演奏送葬。就是在这样一个完全将人性自负褫夺了的卑劣情况下，这群女性挣扎着活了过来。范尼莎．雷德格雷夫和简．亚历山大在片中都有精湛表演。
