由著名奥斯卡获奖导演爱德华·兹维克执导的史诗战争影片《名誉》，按照美国南北战争中的实在事务改编而成。本片以对作战排场惊心动魄地描写和对黑人受虐惨况催人泪下地刻画，赢得1990年第62届奥斯卡金像奖最好男配角、最好摄影、最好声响等多项大奖。尚未成名的丹泽尔·华盛顿更凭仗此片一同收获1990年第47届金球奖最好男配角。
