这部新片改编自塞缪颁发于1836年的同名自传体小说，首要报告青年缪赛与年长6岁的著名女作家乔治·桑之间的罗曼史。
《一个世纪儿的反悔》塑造了一个典型的对社会不满而又无意否决、面临黑暗现实存几分嘲讽又带几分厌弃、半是自在追求半是沮丧颁唐的游浪子形象。“世纪病”一词即由此得名。1999年，由伯努瓦·马吉梅与朱丽叶·比诺什主演的《恋恋红尘》（原名《世纪儿》）也是改编自该著作。
《一个世纪儿的反悔》由法国、英国和德国合拍，将于明年1月开拍。
