十六岁的杰米（卢卡斯·皮塔威 Lucas Pittaway 饰）和两个弟弟艾利克斯（Marcus Howard 饰）、尼古拉斯（Matthew Howard 饰）一路，同母亲过着相依为命的生活。一家人住在政府专门建造供给给穷户们居住的社区中，他们的左邻右舍，都是和他们一样无家可归的社会下层人士。
杰米整天生活在压制和疾苦当中，弟弟们少不知事成日里调皮捣鬼，母亲则怨天尤人闷闷不乐，杰米想要分开家庭，分开这个地方，就在此时，一个名为约翰（丹尼尔·亨绍尔 Daniel Henshall 饰）的汉子出现在了杰米的身旁，这个高峻诙谐的汉子，满足了杰米对于父亲的一切空想。随着时候的推移，杰米和约翰的关系越来越密切起来，他甚至搬到了约翰家里，可渐渐的，约翰暴露了不为人知的一面。
