本片是一个浪漫恋爱笑剧，亚德.道奇（安东尼奥.班德拉斯饰）老早就放弃成为画家的心愿，情愿窝在迈阿密海滩区当个画廊老板，由于买卖欠好，亚德只能想其他的法子赢利撑下去。这时辰一个带点傻气的贵妇贝蒂.可娜（梅兰妮.格里菲斯饰）出现在亚德的眼前，两人一见钟情，一发而不成整理，共度缱绻豪情的一夜。贝蒂刚离第二次婚，她的前两次婚姻是和同一个汉子金恩。此时贝蒂碰见亚德，便把他看成第三任丈夫的人选，而贝蒂的前夫却还在纠缠她。在亚德根原本不及斟酌之前，贝蒂已寄出喜帖了。一切都似乎已势在必行了。但此时的亚德却没法自拔的爱上了贝蒂的妹妹丽兹.可娜（黛丽.汉娜饰），姐妹两人的本性截然不同，在各式试图提早婚礼不成后，亚德心生一计，自己缔造出双胞胎弟弟巴特，实在就是亚德一人在现实生活平分饰两角，希望他的巴特能获得丽兹的芳心。这个计划看来似乎太完善了，可这个连天主都想不出来的好法子能实现吗？还是亚德的大麻烦才刚刚起头。
