身为康琴小学的校长，特拉齐布尔蜜斯（帕姆·费里斯 Pam Ferris 饰）喜好听话而温顺的孩子，身为铅球高手，她处理题目标唯一方式就是武力。和暴力的特拉齐布尔蜜斯完全相反的是一年级教员汉尼蜜斯（艾伯丝·戴维兹 Embeth Davidtz 饰），她的温温和耐心让玛蒂尔达如沐春风。聪明的玛蒂尔达发现汉尼蜜斯似乎有着一些没法终局但又说不出口的难处，她决议用自己的气力帮助汉尼蜜斯。
