1831年，北美洲某个偏僻的山谷村子，这里传播着一个陈腐的风俗。每到夏小节（10月31日）当天，村中要将一切不干净的工具烧掉，其中便包括一个尚在襁褓中的婴儿。婴儿的母亲欣喜若狂，眼睁睁看着宝贝被投入火中，因而愤而对村民做出诅咒，“每逢夏小节，村中的孩子便会被杀死。”接着这个恶毒的诅咒，邪恶的妖精从火中诞生。
约180年后的明天，中年男人尼尔·珀金斯（Gil Bellows 饰）载着妻子凯特（Camille Sullivan 饰）、女儿尼基（Tracy Spiridakos 饰）、女儿的朋友以及嗷嗷待哺的儿子南森前往万圣谷绿林路一处居处度假。刚一进村他们便遭到一个醉汉的警告，但是却没人将其放在心上。越日，万圣节来到，沉睡于此的妖精重返人世……
